About These Ships
The ultra luxurious and uber hip privately owned SeaDream Yacht Club sails two identical yachts: the SeaDream I and SeaDream II. We’ll address both ships in this overview.
This is small ship sailing at its best and SeaDream has won the praise of everyone from Berlitz to Conde Nast Traveler to Travel + Leisure. The yachts are a home-away-from-home for active travelers, but those with physical disabilities may not find SeaDream to be the perfect cruise experience. Families with small children may also wish to look elsewhere for their luxury cruise experience. (The SeaDream crowd leans more toward James Bond than Mary Poppins.)
SeaDream I and SeaDream II sail unique itineraries and visit ports of call the larger ships just can’t reach. It’s an experience that’s tough to match.
Staterooms & Amenities
As with other intimate yachts, you won’t find a huge variety of stateroom categories to choose from on SeaDream I and II. There are four cabin categories: Yacht Club Staterooms, Commodore Suites, Admiral Suite, and Owner’s Suite.
There are 54 Yacht Club Staterooms (on Decks 2, 3, and 4), measuring 195 square feet. Each cabin can be outfitted with either a queen-size bed or two twin beds. You’ll also find a living area with sofa, chair, cocktail table, dresser, and writing desk. If you prefer picture windows, book a Yacht Club cabin on either Deck 3 or 4. The rooms in this category on Deck 2 have two portholes instead of a picture window.
On Decks 2 and 3 you’ll find eight Commodore Suites, which are actually two converted Yacht Club staterooms. The benefit of this arrangement is that you’ll actually have two full baths and two closets. You may also choose to have one bed and a dining table that seats four or two beds and no dining table.
New to the SeaDream II is one 375-square-foot Admiral Suite (Suite 400). This spacious cabin offers a master bedroom suite with a queen bed and private bathroom and a separate living and dining area with a half bath. Both the bedroom and living room include an entertainment center. Three panoramic windows are the highlight of this suite. (Note: The Admiral Suite is currently available on the SeaDream II. An Admiral Suite will be bookable on the SeaDream I beginning in June 2009.)
And finally for those who prefer to book the top-of-the-line suite, go for the 447-square-foot Owner’s Suite (Suite 315). This suite has a master bedroom with a queen bed and bath with a shower and separate soaking tub. A living and dining area is also complete with a guest bathroom.
Each stateroom, regardless of category, feature the following amenities:
- Flat-screen TV, DVD, and CD player
- Closet with wooden hangers and full-length mirrors
- A dataport that provides access to the Internet; laptops available upon request
- Marble bathroom with a multi-jet shower massage
- Bvlgari toiletries
- Belgian linens and a selection of pillows, blanket, or down duvet
- 100% Turkish cotton robes with slippers
- Mini-bar stocked with a selection of beverages
- Personalized yacht stationery, direct dial telephones, personal safe, individually controlled AC, make-up mirror, and hair dryer
- 24-hour room service
Public Rooms
While SeaDream I and II are intimate yachts, there are still plenty of public spaces to explore. Let’s go deck by deck:
- On Deck 2, you’ll find the retractable water sports platform/marina. If you enjoy swimming, sailing, or snorkeling, you’ll probably spend a lot of time by the aft marina. The Dining Salon is also located on this deck.
- Deck 3 is home to the pool and pool bar, the card room, the main salon bar, as well as reception/concierge.
- Deck 4 is the place to head when you just want to relax on deck with a good spy novel. The aft Lounging Deck is quite popular. You can always pick up a book to borrow at the nearby library. The SeaDream Spa, fitness center, and beauty salon are all located on Deck 4 forward and go midship for the Boutique. In the evening, many guests spend their time in the Piano Bar or Casino.
- Topside Restaurant and the medical facility are located on Deck 5.
- Deck 6 is one of the most popular decks since it’s home to the Balinese Dream Beds (aft), Sun Beds (forward), Top Of the Yacht bar, and the golf simulator.
Dining
The chefs aboard SeaDream yachts take food seriously and each meal is a culinary celebration. If you’re the type that wakes early, head to the Top Of the Yacht for a cup of coffee or tea, a glass of juice, and a few pastries. When your better half wakes (we know how that goes!), the two of you can enjoy a full breakfast at the Topside Restaurant, which also serves lunch.
For all-day snacking, you can visit the Pool Bar or Top Of the Yacht or hit afternoon tea at the Topside Restaurant. And, of course, there’s always 24-hour room service.
In the evening, most guests enjoy open seating dinner in the Dining Salon or on deck at Al Fresco (weather permitting). Each dish is prepared to order and the menu always includes vegetarian options as well as a low-cal “spa menu”. View a sample SeaDream dinner menu.
If romance is on your mind, you can enjoy dinner in an intimate alcove for two. Complimentary wine is served at both lunch and dinner. However, select wines may also be purchased from the SeaDream Wine Cellar menu.
And, if you’ve researched SeaDream you’ve probably already heard about their famous Champagne and Caviar Splash. The crew and guests will toast each other while sipping champagne and enjoying caviar. A glorious barbecue on the beach accompanies the festivities. It will be a memory you won’t soon forget.
Entertainment
The entertainment options aboard SeaDream I and II are a bit more subdued than the megaships, but you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied. Top Of the Yacht Bar is the place to relax while enjoying the amazing views and excellent cocktails. A solo guitarist is often stationed in this lounge and he/she will take requests as well as play all your favorites.
If you prefer the tinkling of the ivories, head to the Piano Bar, midship on Deck 4.
Spa, Beauty & Fitness
Forward on Deck 4 is the SeaDream Spa, fitness center, and beauty salon. The spa is Thai certified—something no other cruise ship spa can claim. Eight therapists are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering a special “Asian Blend” massage ($155), traditional Thai massage ($115), and Javanese Lulur treatment ($55)—among other options. Complimentary yoga and tai chi classes are also offered. Consult the full SeaDream Spa treatment menu (pdf) here. If you’re booked on a SeaDream cruise, reserve your spa appointment now.
Beauty salon services are also available.
The fitness center is available to you from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. With its panoramic ocean views, you can work out with free weights, treadmills (four) , elliptical machine (one), and recumbent bikes (two).
Internet Access
You may access the Internet from your stateroom for $35 per day. There are also Internet-ready computers available in the library. The charge is $5 for the first 10 minutes and $3 for each additional 10-minute block.
Recreation
Each SeaDream yacht has an aft marina. Here you’ll be able to borrow wave runners, kayaks, and Sunfish sailboats. You’ll snorkel from the yacht, swim, and water ski. The marina is open whenever the yacht is anchored and sea conditions permit.
Accessibility
Like other intimate yachts, the SeaDream I and II are not the best options for people with limited mobility.
