History
For more than 20 years, The Yachts of Seabourn has been refining its luxury cruise experience by focusing on:
- intimate “yacht-like” vessels
- spacious, all-suite accommodations
- exceptional, personal service
- inventive gourmet cuisine
- beyond-the-ordinary ports of call
The cruise line has been incredibly successful over the past decade and it’s nearly impossible to convince a loyalist to give another high-end cruise line a chance. Seabourn fans are diehards!
Currently sailing now are Seabourn’s “triplets”: the Legend, Pride, and Spirit. Each of these vessels accommodate just 208 guests. Setting sail in June 2009, the Seabourn Odyssey is the first of three new-generation 450-passenger cruise ships being built for the cruise line. The Sojourn will set sail in 2010 and a yet-to-be-named ship will take to the seas in 2011.
Onboard Vibe
Step onto any Seabourn ship and you’ll immediately feel the palpable energy emitted by the crew and passengers—everyone looking forward to exploring new corners of the earth together. The “vibe” often differs depending on the itinerary. Caribbean journeys are slightly more relaxed while trips to Asia, with lots of port calls, are high-energy affairs with no one wanting to miss a thing.
Fellow Travelers
Seabourn sailors are sophisticated and well-traveled. Like fans of Crystal Cruises, Seabournites loook forward to formal night and you’ll definitely see some lovely ladies and gents dressed to the nines. Since Seabourn itineraries tend to be longer than seven days, many cruisers are retired.
Dress Code
Casual attire is welcome during the day, but keep the swimsuits and exercise wear for poolside lounging. Walking shorts and T-shirts are better suited when dining in The Restaurant or Verdana Café during the day.
At night, you’ll adhere to one of Seabourn’s recommended modes of dress: Black-Tie Optional, Elegant Casual, and Casual.
- Black-Tie Optional—tuxedo or dark suit for men; evening gown or other formal attire for the ladies
- Elegant Casual—for men, slacks with a shirt or sweater and jacket; for women, sundresses, skirts or pants, and blouses or sweaters
- Casual—slacks and a shirt for men; slacks or a skirt with a blouse for ladies
Food & Wine
Considering the uber-elegant atmosphere aboard Seabourn ships, you may assume that the dining experience is rigid. Luckily, that’s not the case. Seabourn offers open seating restaurants so you may dine where you want, with whom you want, when you want. And, if you don’t wish to dine in one of the restaurants, you can always call in-suite dining. In the evenings you can dine, course by course in your suite, by selecting anything from The Restaurant’s menu.
Renown chef Charlie Palmer designed all of the menus for Seabourn’s restaurants. Just of few of his signature dishes include prawns saltimbocca, Asian spiced duck breast, and whiskey honey soufflé.
Restaurants aboard Legend, Pride, and Spirit include:
- The Restaurant—This main dining room is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- Restaurant 2— This is the place to head in the evenings for tasting menus paired with fine wine from Seabourn’s cellar. Deck 7, aft.
- Veranda Café—In the same space as Restaurant 2, Veranda Café is open for breakfast and lunch, serving buffets and cooked to order items.
- Sky Grill—_Al fresco_ dining at lunchtime on Deck 8.
Restaurants aboard Odyssey include:
- The Restaurant and Restaurant 2
- The Colonnade—The newest dining venue from Seabourn, The Colonnade is an indoor/outdoor restaurant featuring an open kitchen. Breakfast, lunch, and themed dinners are staged here.
- Patio Grill—Casual poolside dining is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Entertainment
Seabourn offers everything from cabaret-style shows to evening dancing to Movies Under the Stars.
